We at A-1 Southern Ironworks take pride in the high quality of our work and feel like this is what sets us apart from all our competition. We take time to prepare the iron before we start on any project because we know that this will make the difference in the quality of the finished product. Here are some frequently asked questions. We hope this information is helpful in making a decision to choose A-1 Southern Ironworks for your Investment in Ironwork.

1. Do you give free estimates?
Yes, we give free estimates in Denham Springs and Baton Rouge area. We often can give general estimates over the phone.

2. How long have you been in business?

We have been serving the Baton Rouge and Denham Springs area since 1978

3. Do you install iron work?

We will install all orders over $500.00 and we only install what we sell.

4. Why are you more expensive than the local home improvement store?
We use quality solid iron with a thick gauge where a retail store usually only carries prefabricated thin hollow steel or aluminum. All of our projects are custom built at our shop and we take the time to make sure all iron is cleaned & prepped properly before fabrication. In addition we seam weld in order to give the product a more finished look. All of this will ensure a longer lasting finish.

5. Do you use wrought iron?
True wrought iron was used in the 1800's and is not longer produced. We use high quality iron or carbon steel which is 97% iron. Most of our decorative parts and castings are made of cast iron.

6. What kind of paint finishes do you offer & how long does it last?
We use a black enamel semigloss that last about 8 – 10 years with minor touch ups. Depending on the type of job and size, jobs are primed and painted or dipped in a paint vat using a self priming paint. Powder coating is available upon request.

7. What do you do if iron work rusts?
Lightly sand and touch up with krylon semi gloss black

8. Why does iron rust if repaired properly?
Several things can cause iron to rust: 1) Weed eating or lawn chemicals 2) Accidents with vehicles 3) Storm damage 4) Pets urinating on the fence or gate

9. How long does it take once I place my order?
In can vary by the type of job, location and weather. There are many factors to consider and we ask that you call and give us the opportunity to custom design and build what you need.

10. What are your payment options?
We accept most major credit cards, cash and checks. On all custom jobs, we require 1/3 down when you place your order.

Please note when choosing a ironworks company, make sure they are licensed, bonded, and insured. Also make sure they have a good standing with the Better Business Bureau. We invite all of our customers and potential customers to come by our shop in order to see how we operate.
